New data from UK Pet Food reveals there is a drop off in feeding our wild birds across the spring and summer months, despite this being one of the most important times to support them.

Key Facts

While 60% of people feed birds most in winter, this falls to around 52% in spring and just 50% in summer.

At the same time, birds are entering breeding and nesting season, when their energy demands are at their highest as they build nests and feed their chicks.

Key Stats

*  46% of Brits do not feed birds at all

*  Feeding drops from 60% in winter to ~50% in spring and summer

*  70% feed birds because they enjoy seeing them

*  57% want to support local wildlife

Summer Feeding Guidance

Alongside consistent feeding, maintaining good hygiene is key to helping protect bird health and ensuring feeding remains safe.

Simple steps can make a big difference:

• Clean feeders regularly to reduce the risk of disease

• Provide fresh, clean water

• Keep feeding areas tidy and well managed

• Avoid food becoming damp or spoiled

Taking a little extra care helps create a safer feeding environment and supports birds throughout the seasons.

As proud members of UK Pet Food, Pedigree Wholesale are supporting this campaign to help raise awareness of the importance of consistent, responsible bird feeding.
