A practical guide to building a simple, consistent supplement routine for dogs and cats

by Damien Clarkson, Co-Founder and CEO of Bound Pets

Meet Bound

I have worked in pet food and pet health for over half a decade, but the inspiration for Bound’s supplement pumps came from a very personal frustration.

My dog, Blossom, has always needed additional joint support, but getting her to take tablets has been almost impossible. Hiding them in food rarely worked, and Blossom is a small, not very active dog and giving her a treat supplement just wasn’t an option for her.

I knew we could not be the only pet owners facing this problem.

That is why we created Bound’s liquid supplement pumps: to make daily supplementation easier for pets, simpler for their owners and more straightforward for retailers to explain.

Instead of wrestling with a tablet or measuring out a powder, owners simply pump the recommended amount directly onto their pet’s normal food.

Because the best supplement is not simply the one with the longest ingredient list. It is the one an owner can give consistently.

Why Consistency Matters

Supplements are designed to become part of a pet’s everyday routine. However, many traditional formats create unnecessary friction.

Tablets can be difficult to administer. Powders can be messy and difficult to measure. Soft chews may be easier to feed, but they also require a chew base and additional ingredients to create their texture and tast

Bound takes a different approach.

Our liquid formulas are delivered through a convenient dosing pump, making it easy to:

●     Add the supplement directly to wet or dry food

●     Adjust the serving according to the pet’s weight

●     Give a consistent amount each day

●     Avoid hiding tablets inside treats or human food

●     Incorporate supplementation into an existing feeding routine

Each formula has been developed with veterinary expertise and uses carefully selected ingredients, including plant-derived polyphenols and flavonoids, botanical extracts, vitamins, minerals and fish oils.

Choosing the Right Everyday Support

Different pets have different needs. Age, breed, lifestyle, diet and existing health concerns can all influence the type of functional support an owner may wish to consider.

Joints & Everyday  Mobility

Changes in mobility are not always as obvious as limping. Owners may first notice that their dog is slower getting up, less enthusiastic about stairs or walks, or more reluctant to jump into the car.

Bound Hip and Joint contains fish oil, glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and turmeric to support joint comfort, flexibility and everyday movement.

Joint supplementation should sit alongside appropriate exercise, weight management and veterinary advice where mobility has noticeably changed

Digestion & Gut Health

Bound Gut Digestion combines digestive botanicals, prebiotics, cod liver oil and essential nutrients to support the gut microbiome and normal digestive function.

It can be particularly useful for owners looking for broader everyday digestive support or help maintaining normal anal gland function.

Persistent diarrhoea, vomiting, blood in the stool, weight loss or a sudden change in appetite should always be discussed with a veterinary professional.

Skin, Coat & Seasonal Sensitivities

Dry skin, excessive scratching and a dull coat can have many causes, including diet, parasites, environmental sensitivities and underlying health conditions.

Bound Skin and Coat provides nutritional support for healthy skin and a soft, glossy coat.

For dogs experiencing seasonal sensitivities, Bound Allergy Relief combines selected botanical extracts—including nettle, pansy, dandelion and liquorice—with vitamins C, E and D3 to support normal skin condition and immune balance.

Ongoing itching, inflamed skin, hair loss or recurring ear problems should always be investigated by a vet.

Calm & Emotional Balance

Changes in routine, travel, separation, fireworks and unfamiliar environments can all affect a dog’s emotional wellbeing.

Bound Relax is a non-drowsy daily liquid topper designed to support relaxation and emotional balance. It can be used alongside predictable routines, positive training, exercise and a quiet, secure space at home.

Significant or sudden behavioural changes may indicate pain or an underlying medical issue and should be discussed with a vet or qualified behaviourist.

Everyday Immunity & Vitality

Some owners are not looking to address one specific concern. They simply want to provide broad, everyday nutritional support.

Bound Daily Multivitamin provides a balanced blend of essential vitamins and minerals to support normal metabolism, energy and general wellbeing.

Bound Healthy Immunity has been formulated to support natural immune defences and everyday vitality, particularly during seasonal changes or periods of additional stress.

Supplements should complement a complete and balanced diet rather than replace it.

Targeted Support for Cats

Cats present their own supplementation challenges. They can be extremely sensitive to changes in smell, flavour and texture, making tablets and powders especially difficult to introduce.

Bound’s cat formulas use the same simple pump format and can be mixed into a cat’s usual wet food.

Anti-Hairball

Grooming causes cats to swallow loose hair, which would normally pass naturally through the digestive system.

Bound Anti-Hairball supports the normal passage of ingested hair and healthy digestive movement, making it particularly relevant for indoor and long-haired cats.

Renal Protect

Kidney health becomes an increasingly important consideration as cats age. Bound Renal Protect provides nutritional support for normal kidney function, hydration balance and everyday vitality.

Any increase in thirst or urination, loss of appetite, vomiting or unexplained weight loss requires veterinary assessment. Renal Protect is not a replacement for a veterinary renal diet or prescribed treatment.

Respiratory Relief

Bound Respiratory Relief has been developed to support normal respiratory function and the cat’s natural immune defences.

Breathing difficulties should always be treated seriously. Open-mouth breathing, wheezing, persistent coughing or visible respiratory distress requires prompt veterinary attention.

Five Tips for Starting a Supplement Routine

1.    Start with a clear need. Choose a formula based on the pet’s age, lifestyle and individual health goal.

2.    Follow the recommended serving. More is not necessarily better. Use the feeding guidance provided on the product.

3.    Introduce it gradually. For particularly cautious pets, begin with a small amount mixed thoroughly into familiar food.

4.    Be consistent. Add the supplement at the same mealtime each day so it becomes part of the household routine.

5.    Know when to speak to a vet. Supplements support everyday health but are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure illness.

Helping Owners Make Confident Choices

Independent pet retailers play an important role in the supplement category. Owners are often faced with shelves of products but very little help understanding which format or functional benefit is right for their pet.

The best conversation begins with a few simple questions:

●     Is the product for a dog or cat?

●     What is the owner hoping to support?

●     How old is the pet?

●     Is the pet currently taking medication or another supplement?

●     Has a vet already investigated the concern?

●     Which formats has the owner previously struggled to administer?

This helps the retailer recommend an appropriate product while recognising when veterinary advice should come first.

Pet supplementation does not need to feel complicated. By combining targeted formulas with a convenient liquid pump, Bound has made it easier for owners to turn good intentions into a consistent daily habit.

Because boundless health starts with the small things we do every day.
